Nigeria eventually took the lead a minute later through Bashiru, whose long-range effort found the back of the net to give the Flamingos a 1-0 advantage.
The Nigerian youngsters held on to their lead until the half-time break.
Two minutes into the second half, Umejiaku doubled Nigeria’s advantage with a brilliant finish, putting the Flamingos firmly in control of the contest.
Japan refused to surrender and mounted a late fightback, with Fuki Ito pulling one back in the 80th minute to set up a tense closing period.
